If you’ve ever heard of honeycomb in the cannabis world, then you already know about crumble. This unique concentrate is a favorite of cannabis connoisseurs who are looking for high THC potency in their products. In this guide, we’ll answer all your questions about crumble, including:
Crumble
Also: Crumble Wax, THC Crumble, Honeycomb Wax, Crumble Dabs
Crumble is a cannabis concentrate that is both dry and powdery, which makes it fall apart, or crumble, easily. It's also extremely potent, with up to 90% THC.
Crumble, also called honeycomb or honeycomb wax, is a dry concentrate that will crumble in your fingers with the slightest bit of pressure.1 This dry consistency makes it unique from other concentrates and a great option if you like to infuse your joints or top your bowls. Don’t worry if you’re a dabber, though. Crumble can easily be dabbed once you’re used to handling it, and you’ll be rewarded for your patience—crumble is a flavorful, aromatic concentrate.

Crumble is strong. Really strong. In fact, crumble can have up to 90% THC.2 With a potency level that high, you’re going to need to start with only a small amount and go from there to ensure you don’t overdo it. There’s nothing worse than enjoying a little too much and having an unpleasant experience because of it.
To make crumble dabs, marijuana plant material is placed in a closed-loop system where solvents (e.g. BHO) can extract the compounds cannabis enthusiasts crave. Once the solvent is purged from the concentrate, it is gently agitated and left in a vacuum oven at a low heat.3 This process slowly dries out the extract, but the agitation keeps it from becoming shatter instead of crumble. The final product is a dry cake of honeycomb-esque concentrate.

Smoking a concentrate isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. Some concentrates are more easily enjoyed using one method compared to another. Here are the three most popular methods for smoking crumble:
Dab Rig: Dab rigs are designed for concentrates, and they can certainly accommodate crumble. That said, because of the dry consistency of crumble, it can be a bit of a pain to get from your container and onto your nail. We recommend a dab tool with a spoon at the end to scoop your crumble. Then, add a little crumble to your nail, let it melt to create a sticky surface, and follow that up with the rest of the dose of your crumble. This should help you avoid having crumble going everywhere.
Infused Joint or Bowl: This, in our opinion, is the easiest way to enjoy crumble. Sprinkle a little crumble over your flower in your bowl or infused joint and enjoy. This will add potency, flavor, and aroma to your flower.4 Just remember, a little goes a long way.
Vaporize: If you’ve already vaped concentrates, you know what to do here. Scoop a bit of crumble with your dab tool and add it to the heating element of your dab pen. Close the pen up, let it heat, and enjoy.

There are two ways that crumble is different from other concentrates: its appearance and its flavor.5
Appearance: Because of the way crumble is made, it becomes a crumbly, dry product with very little moisture in it. While this might make it hard to add to a nail, it’s great for rolling an infused joint or topping off an expertly packed bowl.
Flavor: The other benefit to how crumble is made is that it requires a low heat. This means that many of the terpenes that normally are destroyed in the manufacturing process are preserved. Because of this, it may have a stronger scent and flavor when compared to other concentrates.

Here are a few of the questions our butenders commonly get from cannabis consumers.
Is crumble more potent than dabs?
Crumble, a type of dab, can have up to 90% THC. This makes it one of the most potent dabs on the market.
Can I make crumble at home?
Definitely not. To make crumble, dangerous solvents, like butane, are required. These types of chemicals need to be contained in a closed-loop system to ensure the safety of the manufacturers. Without this professional equipment, you should not make DIY crumble.5
Can you use crumble for dabs?
Yes, you can use crumble for dabs. Any concentrate that can be added to the nail of a dab rig or heating element of a dab pen is a dab—so crumble fits that bill.
Is crumble the same as wax?
Crumble is a type of wax that is extracted at a lower temperature for a longer amount of time, which gives the concentrate a crumbly texture.1
How should you store cannabis crumble?
To ensure your concentrate has a long shelf life, place it in an airtight, opaque container. Then store the container in a cool area that doesn’t see direct sunlight.

With so many different cannabis concentrates available, it’s hard to work through them all to find the one you love the most (though we try not to have favorites). If crumble made the top of your must-try list, head over to your local dispensary and talk to your budtender. They’ll guide you to the crumble we have available and answer any questions you might have about the concentrate.
