If you are visiting a dispensary, make sure to bring a valid, state-issued photo ID as this is a requirement for every state. (Most forms of government identification are accepted.) If you are a medical marijuana patient, you’ll also need to bring your valid medical cannabis card. There may be additional requirements, so be sure to review all state-specific guidelines before your visit.

Some states are medical only, which means you need to have a valid medical marijuana card before you can visit a dispensary. Other states are adult-use, allowing adults 21 and over to shop for cannabis products. Check the rules for your specific state before planning your dispensary trip.

Taxes on medical and recreational purchases vary by state. Additional taxes may include municipal or county taxes.
