How to Make Marijuana BBQ Condiments
Barbecues are a warm-weather staple across the country, creating an opportunity to show off your most unique, homemade dishes to friends and family. While grandma’s potato salad is a safe choice, why not share your love of cannabis with your (21+ adults only!) guests?
If you’re looking to wow your fellow summertime revelers - and you’re in a state where cannabis is legal for adult use - try bringing cannabis-infused condiments like ketchup and BBQ sauce for guests to add to their entrees and appetizers.
Getting Started with Cannabis Condiments
Cooking with cannabis can seem like a daunting task, but the marijuana infusion happens with your base ingredients. Once you create your own cannabutter and cannaoil, you can turn just about any recipe into a THC dish.
Marijuana-infused ketchup is a good place to start, as it can be added to burgers and hot dogs, as well as used to make cannabis BBQ sauce. We’ve included both marijuana BBQ sauce and ketchup recipes here, but you can always modify your own recipes to include cannabis-infused ingredients.
Verilife’s Cannabis Ketchup
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 1 hour
Yield: 32 servings
Ingredients:
2 tbsp. cannaoil
4 cloves Garlic, Minced
1 Medium Onion, Diced
1 can (28 Oz.) Peeled Whole Tomatoes
3 tbsp. Tomato Paste
1/3 cup Brown Sugar
1 tbsp. Molasses
1/3 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 tsp. Chili Powder
1/4 tsp. Powdered Ginger
1/4 tsp. Ground Allspice
1/4 tsp. Cinnamon
Directions:
Step 1: Place cannaoil and onions in a four-quart pot, and saute over medium heat until translucent.
Step 2: Add garlic to the pot and saute until fragrant, about two minutes.
Step 3: Add tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, molasses, and cider vinegar to the pot. Bring to a slow boil, then lower to a simmer. Using a spoon, crush the whole tomatoes into the mixture.
Step 4: Add remaining ingredients to the pot and simmer (uncovered) for 45 - 55 minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid scorching.
Step 5: Once the sauce is very thick, use an immersion blender or food processor to puree the ketchup until it’s smooth. You can also strain through a fine, mesh strainer to ensure consistency is smooth.
Step 6: Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
