Some states have different purchase and possession limits (this means that while you can purchase only a certain amount, you’re allowed to have a larger amount at home), and some states, like Illinois, have the same purchase and possession limits. 
 

What are the Purchasing Limits in Illinois?

There are two different sets of rules in Illinois when it comes to purchasing cannabis: one for residents and one for non-residents. That’s right—cannabis enthusiasts who live in Illinois are allowed to purchase twice the amount that visitors are allowed to purchase. If you’re visiting, it’s important to remember that you can’t cross state lines with marijuana. 

  • Cannabis Flower: Curious how much cannabis you can buy in Illinois? When it comes to marijuana flower, residents of Illinois are allowed to purchase up to 30 grams, or roughly an ounce. Non-resident visitors to the state are only allowed to purchase up to 15 grams.
     
  • Concentrates: Whether you’re purchasing vape cartridges, budder, resin, or another form of concentrate, residents are allowed to have as much as 5 grams. Non-residents are only allowed to have 2.5 grams of cannabis concentrates
     
  • THC-Infused Products: Wondering how much edibles you can buy? For tinctures, cannabis beverages, edibles, and other THC-infused products, residents are allowed to purchase up to 500 milligrams and non-residents can purchase up to 250 milligrams.

These totals are cumulative, so you can have a combination of flower, infused products, and concentrates up to the limit in each category.

When it comes to THC-infused edibles - which includes gummies, tinctures, chocolate, etc. - Illinois residents are able to purchase and possess products with a combined total of 500 milligrams of THC. Non-residents can purchase and possess products with a total of up to 250 milligrams.

Yes, you can purchase from multiple dispensaries—as long as you don’t purchase over the legal limit in the state of Illinois.
