Ohio Medical Marijuana Patients & Caregivers: Important Information

As a patient new to medical marijuana, we understand you have lots of questions - from what you need to do to qualify, to what kinds of products are available, to how they work. You have the option of designating a personal caregiver to assist you with your medical use of marijuana.

To Caregivers:
As a designated patient caregiver, there’s a lot to know about administering medical marijuana and how it impacts the patients' well-being. To help those you care for live their best life, we have the information you need to answer any questions you may have. Be sure to always keep a log and share it with the patient’s physician.

The recommending physician must enter/submit the patients' or caregivers' details into the Ohio Board of Pharmacy online Patient & Caregiver Registry portal following their recommendation for medical marijuana.

How to qualify as a patient caregiver in Ohio

To qualify for a designated caregiver registry identification card, a designated caregiver must:

  • Be a resident of the state of Ohio at the time of application and remain a resident during participation in the program
  • You can only be a caregiver to two qualifying patients
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Minor patients (under the age of 18) are required to have a parent or legal representative serve as their caregiver
  • The registration fee for caregivers is $25
