What Are Terp Pearls & How Are They Used?

Glowing pearl on a black tabletop

You might think, by their name, that terp pearls are a type of concentrate, but they’re actually an inventive little tool to use when dabbing that keeps your cannabis concentrates evenly heated. In this guide, we’ll share everything you need to know about terp pearls, including:

  • What is a Terp Pearl?
  • How Do You Use a Terp Pearl?
  • Why Use a Terp Pearl?

What is a Terp Pearl?

Terp pearls - also known as banger beads, dab pearls, or terp balls - are marble-like balls that are placed at the bottom of your dab rig’s banger. As you inhale your concentrate, the terp pearl spins around to distribute and heat the concentrate evenly. They are typically made out of quartz.

Cannabis consumers who prefer dabbing at low heat should consider using a terp pearl, as it can maximize the flavor of your concentrate. Speaking of heat, it’s important to note that some terp balls can’t hold up to super hot dabbing temperatures. Always check your product’s packaging to make sure you know the safe temperatures to heat your banger beads.

How Do You Use a Terp Pearl?

A terp pearl is used to enhance concentrate consumption, so it shouldn’t interrupt your process too much.

Step 1: Add to Banger
Place your terp pearl in the banger of your dab rig. Depending on the size of your banger, you can use multiple pearls at a time.

Step 2: Heat & Add Concentrate
Begin by heating your banger to your preferred temperature. Then, grab your cannabis from wherever you store your concentrates and add it to the banger.

Step 3: Cover with a Carb Cap
Make sure you have a carb cap on hand, and use it to cover the banger. Terp pearls won’t work if you don’t use a carb cap.

Step 4: Inhale
As you inhale the vapor, you’ll see the terp pearls spinning around like clothes in a washing machine. This means they’re doing their job. Just clean them when you’re finished like you would your banger, and you’ll be ready for your next dabbing session.

If you like to dab at really hot temperatures, and you don’t have terp pearls made of a material that can withstand that heat, refrain from adding your banger balls until after you’ve heated the nail. This allows the nail to cool a little, so your terp pearls can do their job without getting damaged.

Why Use a Terp Pearl?

Terp pearls are used by cannabis connoisseurs who are looking to get the most out of their concentrates. There are a few reasons to use a terp pearl:

  • They keep your concentrate from getting stuck in the edges of your banger.

  • They distribute your concentrate evenly throughout the banger, so you aren’t wasting concentrate.

  • They ensure heat is distributed evenly throughout the concentrate.

Ultimately, if you’re a master dabber without terp pearls, they might be something to try and see if you enjoy.
