Celebrate National Oil Day on 7/10

Is 7/10 the new 4/20?

The infamous “420” is a holiday that has been around since 1971, generally celebrated by getting together with cannabis enthusiasts to enjoy your favorite product. However, a lesser-known marijuana holiday occurs in the middle of summertime on 7/10, known as National Oil Day or National Dab Day.

This occasion is typically marked by enjoying some form of cannabis oil. “Dabbing” is a term used to describe the practice of superheating a small amount of oil, wax, or shatter and inhaling. These cannabis concentrates produce a quicker, more powerful effect, and can often be more flavorful due to the different aromas and terpenes.

7/10 vs 4/20

You may be wondering how 7/10 differs from 4/20, a cannabis appreciation day known even to those who have never tried marijuana. There isn't a ton of evidence on the emergence of 7/10. However, many agree that July 10 was likely chosen because 710 looks like "OIL" when flipped upside-down, à la "secret" school messages written with calculators. There are no indications that National Dab Day has a decades-long tradition, but its origins can likely be traced to the early 2010’s.

THE REAL HISTORY OF 420

Since the beginning of the decade, cannabis oil has become more commercialized. That means the product has benefited from better manufacturing processes, safer consumption methods, and increased consumer availability. As such, it's enjoyed on a greater scale than ever, one that is continually growing as marijuana gains greater acceptance in the public eye and in state legislatures.

Cannabis oils come in a variety of forms, strains, and flavors. Depending on the method of consumption, additional devices may also be required. For more information about smoking concentrates, visit a local Verilife dispensary and speak to an expert.
